The design of an industrial wooden crate is a structural engineering exercise. Load paths, panel thickness, joint design, base skid configuration, and internal bracing must all be calculated based on cargo weight, dimensions, and transport mode. ISPM-15 compliance is non-negotiable for international timber packaging. The International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 requires that solid wood packaging materials be heat-treated (HT) or fumigated with methyl bromide (MB) to prevent the transport of invasive wood pests and diseases. Non-compliant packaging is rejected at customs, resulting in costly delays and potential cargo damage.
